Position: Aftercare Aide, Part time
Salary: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Founded in 1961, Sandy Spring Friends School is a progressive, coed, academically-rigorous day school serving students from age three through 12th grade. The campus is located on 140 acres in the historic Sandy Spring area of Montgomery County, Maryland, and the School is approved by the Maryland State Board of Education and accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools.

Summary: Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS) is seeking qualified candidates to join our Aftercare Program team for the 2025–26 school year. Our Aftercare Program serves students in Pre-K through 8th grade and provides a nurturing, engaging, and values-centered extension of the school day. Ideal candidates will have prior experience working with children in a school or enrichment program setting, and a genuine love of working with children. We are looking for creative, responsible, and enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about working with children and can lead age-appropriate activities that reflect our Quaker values of community, simplicity, peace, integrity, equality, and stewardship.
Work Schedule:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 3:00–5:30 PM

Wednesdays from 1:00 PM–5:30 PM

Some additional hours on half days and professional development days.
Responsibilities:

Implement age-appropriate, engaging activities aligned with student interests—these may include arts, crafts, sports, nature-based activities, or STEM.

Supervise and ensure the safety of children in various environments, including classrooms, playgrounds and gyms.

Foster a warm, inclusive environment and model respectful, kind, and appropriate behavior for students.

Encourage positive social interactions and provide appropriate guidance and redirection as needed.

Track daily attendance and manage student transitions to and from other after-school activities and assist with sign-in/sign-out procedures, classroom organization, and material preparation and cleanup.
Qualifications:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and families

Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and professionalism

Strong organizational skills and a patient, nurturing demeanor

CPR Certified, desired
Physical Requirements: The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities. Bending, stretching, stooping, and engaging with children at their physical level, indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. The ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom, playground and gyms. Ability to lift or carry children or supplies up to 60 lbs. Ability to maintain full sight and sound supervision of children at all times.
