About Us

For more than half a century, we’ve devoted ourselves to providing homes to older adults of all income levels, cultures, backgrounds, skills and stories. From a mission of affordable care in 1967 to the long-standing local institution and major community resource we strive to be today, our legacy has always been and always will be open to all.

Founded by Quakers and open to all, Friends House is an environmentally conscious, diverse, nonprofit community located on 62 rolling acres, in close proximity to a variety of shops, museums and medical center. North of Silver Spring and east of Olney, Friends House is less than an hour’s drive from either Baltimore or Washington D.C., making it a premier choice for older adults seeking peaceful, revitalizing living in the DMV area.

As a Type-C Life Plan Community, Friends House grants residents and their loved ones complete peace of mind by providing a fee-for-service continuum of care, meaning multiple levels of care are available on our campus for every need as they develop in the lives of residents.

We welcome senior adults regardless of race, color, disability, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, national origin or familial status.
